We set out to explore the old Poole Springs (Healing Springs), Pettit Mill Branch, Tumbling Shoals, Lawsons Fork, and various other sites. Now, I've built my family tree on Ancestry, I did a DNA test through Ancestry, it only states the different origins my ancestors came from.. I have made several trips to Cherrylog ga. I found my Dads G,G Grandfather Henry Andrew Allen is buried. Im 53, when i was 40 yrs old these ancestors in the Appalachian mountains spoke to my soul, So. When I read you got permission to kayak & find the " healing Springs" and you were able to camp over night! 🙏🫶👍❤️ I have been dreaming of doing that same adventure you were blessed to do. If you can maybe guide me to who I need to speak with to fulfill my destiny. Bty.... my Dad is Sid Bussey, His mother Shirley Latham Bussey, is the daughter of Iva Della Allen Latham, her father was Henry Andrew Allen buried at Rock Creek baptist church in Cherrylog ga. Brandon - wonderful story. When we were last in contact, I told you I intended to go to the Pettit Cemetery near Cowpens and try to clean it up a little. Apparently since it's in the woods there's not a lot of upkeep. I never got around to doing that in 2024 but I plan to it this spring when my wife takes off to take her elderly aunt to Graceland. You told me about John Pettit who you reference here as "Jack" and you also told me the cemetery property was owned by Mr. Charles Birch. You gave me his address and I wrote a letter to him. I also tried to contact John Pettit. Both my efforts were to no avail. I never got a response from Mr. Birch and had no luck contacting John. If you or anyone who reads this comment can provide me with the information of who to contact I would like to get it cleared before I load up all my yard tools and head to South Carolina. Thanks and keep the Pettit/Poole info coming!!

This is a wonderful story. I am so glad you got to do this trip with your son. Wow, I would love to go over and see this area where the battle of Cowpens occurred. I would also like to meet the Pettit cousins that live there. I would like to meet Doug Pettit and visit the cemetery. I also couldn't believe the size of that turtle. Wow!

Brandon, when you passed Quinn Branch on your left, my property is on the right side of the river. William the tailor Poole is my 5th great-grandfather through his daughter Elizabeth and John Jackie Brown. My only relation that I know of to Pettits would be through the marriage of William's daughters to Pettits. I really enjoy your website.
